Hey there!

My name is Gabriel, and I am the founder of the "Le Quartier francophone" project. As an expert teacher and researcher in second language acquisition, I want to be honest with you: this journey towards russian mastery might not be easy.

Not only is Russian challenging for French speakers in some respects, but if you aren't familiar with the (socio)cognitive mechanisms behind language learning, you might find yourself falling for the many course offers that are often more focused on marketing than on effective teaching.

I may be exaggerating, but today, language courses generally present you with two options:

- You either spend most of your time listening to a teacher's explanations and completing unnecessary exercises,

- Or you download resources and attempt to navigate your learning journey independently. In this case, you’re likely to become demotivated (because unless you have a passion for linguistics, it can be quite tedious).

In either scenario, your investment may not yield the results you hope for. You won’t derive much pleasure from your learning experience, and you won’t acquire the skills necessary for real-time conversation.

If I’m not mistaken, your goal is to communicate effectively in Russian.

What is Le Quartier francophone?

Le Quartier francophone opened its doors in 2016 in Moscow.

Our initial goal was to provide a more effective and engaging method of language learning.

In addition to French, which is central to our mission, we gradually began offering Russian courses online for foreigners living in Moscow and beyond.

Our commitment to pedagogical excellence has allowed us to serve a wide range of learners while establishing collaborations with respected international organizations and institutions across educational, sociocultural, and scientific fields.

The Neurolinguistic Approach to Language Teaching

Our engagement with the research community led us to adopt a neurolinguistic approach—an incredibly effective method of learning. We exclusively offer courses that involve live interaction, whether face-to-face or online. This format also fosters social interactions.

Our objective is to develop a comprehensive set of linguistic and cultural skills in our learners so they can:

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing,

Understand cultural codes and references within the target society,

Integrate into and be valued within Russian-speaking environments (academic, professional, family).

I am a neurolinguist studying neuroscience and conducting research on speech processing in the brain at the Language and Brain Center at HSE University in Moscow.

Throughout my 11 years at school and 4 years at university, I diligently completed grammar exercises, reading tasks, and text recitations.

However, this was not enough for me to achieve fluency or overcome my fear of making mistakes when speaking.
